About the Conference

This virtual conference (held in Spanish and English) is designed to help raise awareness of Alzheimer’s and other forms of dementia, share NEW information about how to reduce one’s risk of developing the disease from Alzheimer’s Association experts, and hear from experienced caregivers about their dementia journey. The Bringing the Light conference is geared towards caregivers, future caregivers, and healthcare professionals.

Registration is greatly appreciated and can be done online via Eventbrite or via phone at 800.272.3900. Upon registration, if you decide to include your mailing address, we will mail out information to you on local resources and vendors that will be at the conference.

Photography & Filming Notice: Please note by reserving a ticket to our event you agree to having your photo and video taken at the event by the Alzheimer's Association photographer or staff members and to the Alzheimer's Association livestreaming the event. Should you or anyone in your party wish to not have your photo taken or be out of the viewing area of the live stream, please connect with a staff member who will be wearing a Purple Polo on the day of the event and we can help meet your request.

Parking at the Event

Parking is available on-site at the Instituto del Progreso Latino. The event will be taking place in Building A and we recommend parking in Lot A, D, or C seen in the image below.

Breakfast & Vendors

 

Breakfast will be served. Attendees are welcomed to come between 9-10am to grab breakfast, see the conference vendors, and get seated before the session starts at 10am.

10-10:30am

Opening Session

 

The conference will open up with remarks from Regional Vice President and Illinois Chapter Executive Director, Delia Jervier, followed by an Awareness Presentation from the Alzheimer’s Association.

10:30-11:30am

Keynote Session - “Navigating Life After a Diagnosis”

 

The keynote session will be a deeply meaningful one to witness. It will be made up of a panel of caregivers who have navigated different journeys with the disease. They will share their stories and what they have learned as a caregiver.

11:30am- 12:30pm

Lunch will be served and attendees will be invited to eat in the breakout session rooms.

12:30-1:30pm

  • Finding Resources & Advocating as a Caregiver

1:45-2:30pm

Closing Session - “Risk Factors and Challenges Our Community Faces with Alzheimer’s and Dementia”

The closing session will consist of experts in the field discussing the risk factors and challenges the Latino/a/e community faces with Alzheimer’s and dementia. The group may also touch on the latest treatments and research that the community can participate in.

A native of Tamaulipas, Mexico, Florencia Carmona was raised in the Pilsen neighborhood as a young immigrant of 4 years old, and has since lived in the Chicagoland area for most of her life.  Florencia’s previous experience in corporate environments with AT&T and BP Global, has afforded her with extensive experience in Management and Project coordination.  Since 2013, she has worked at Sinai Community Institute on multiple assignments.  Most recently, she is a Health Educator with Community Relations focusing on educating families with better living habits.  She is the resource point of contact for community organizations in the Sinai and Holy Cross serving zip-codes.  Her bi-cultural background and commitment on community collaboration has led her to a number of community leadership roles.  Florencia served as Board Member at Centro Communtario Juan Diego and Westside Pastor’s Coalition for Aids and Inner City Health and is an active member in the Westside Minister Coalition.
